“One ship sails East, and another West. By the self-same winds that blow, ‘tis the set of the sails, and not the gales, that tells the way we go” - Ella Wheeler Wilcox.
Massage became part of my journey in 1981 as a result of a fortuitous encounter. A massage teacher and I became friends. As a result, I undertook to study Shiatsu, and became licensed in the county of Sacramento. From 1988 through 1998, I did massage in San Francisco, where I obtained a B. A. in French from San Francisco State University. After a brief visit to my home state, Maine, I came to Florida in 2000 to enjoy the beautiful winters. In 2003, I graduated from the American Institute of Massage Therapy, where I studied Swedish massage. Immediately afterwards, I decided to add Thai to my repertoire. In 2010, I am due to complete an M. A. in French Literature.
I love massage therapy for many reasons. I meet very interesting individuals from all walks of life. In July 1988, a colleague and I set up an appointment to exchange massages, and we have been best friends ever since. In August 1994, a client gave me a book that became for me a source of great inspiration. In 2004, I had the privilege of working with HIV-positive individuals of limited means. Massage reminds me to trust the universe, and in so doing I am in grateful awe of the endless possibilities that come my way. It gratifies me to know my work causes me to touch lives, and that by these lives I too am touched. My journey of massage, therefore, is one that takes into account the individual, body and soul.
